Job summary

Dollar General Store is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager in supervising staff, inventory, merchandising, and daily store operations. This temporary role is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager position and to be held for a limited period.

Responsibilities include staffing, inventory accuracy, cash handling, loss prevention, and delivering excellent customer service while maintaining store standards and safety.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Basic math including percentages, totals and change calculations.
• Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability and deposit controls.
• Ability to learn IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Familiar with cash, facility and safety control policies (deposits, store keys, SAFE and STARS programs).
• Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices including legal compliance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising and staging, stocking, and pricing of merchandise.
• Assist in inventory management, damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork and facility controls.
• Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Follow company procedures and policies as outlined in the employee handbook and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of all company funds in the designated bank.
• Assist in maintaining financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash controls.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
• Operate store in the store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities for efficiency and shrink reduction.
• Complete all required paperwork and documentation on time.
