Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to support the Store Manager in overseeing store processes, staffing, inventory, merchandising, and cash handling. This role is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager role on a limited-term basis.

The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to policies, and operational excellence, with travel as needed and a focus on safe, well-stocked stores and accurate financial controls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising and stocking according to established practices and manager direction.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management and conduct inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Act as a role model by following company procedures and policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds and cashier accountability.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment.
• Operate store in the manager's absence.
• Review operating statements for trends, expenses, and profitability.
• Complete paperwork and documentation on time.
