The Manager Trainee is responsible for learning the duties of the Store Manager position and developing the skills required for a Store Manager role. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, building the team, driving sales, managing inventory, managing profit and sales, expense control, reducing and managing shrink.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Manager Trainee, you will observe and learn the following duties and skills required for a Store Manager role:

  • Recruit, hire, develop, evaluate, discipline, and retain efficient team members.
  • Deliver Legendary Customer Service through GURA:
    • Greet the Customer.
    • Uncover Customer’s Needs & Wants.
    • Recommend Product Solutions.
    • Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
  • Create and foster a welcoming environment and a sense of belonging in the Store. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring team members mirror the communities served and fostering a supportive environment.
  • Schedule, organize, and plan daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
  • Lead team members to ensure a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from the competition.
  • Communicate company processes, policies, and directives to team members. Evaluate processes for effectiveness and coordinate with District or Regional Managers to resolve issues.
  • Learn to create a desirable work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
  • Handle problem-solving and conflict resolution for team members and customers.
  • Learn sales and profit management, aiming for top and bottom line goals.
  • Promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Manage daily merchandise flow to ensure stock availability and inventory control.
  • Learn the process of organizing merchandise resets according to company standards.
  • Implement and sustain merchandise presentation standards.
  • Evaluate the competitive environment and collaborate with Operations and Merchandising teams to ensure quality and performance.
  • Handle paperwork, including invoices, schedules, product orders, returns, and POs reports. Train on sales forecasting, payroll analysis, and budget review. Document team member evaluations and corrective actions.
  • Manage inventory, including periodic price changes, communicating needs to buyers and distribution centers, and resolving inventory issues.
  • Coordinate and conduct special sales events, support district issues, and community involvement.
  • Develop team member relations by reinforcing company values, addressing issues, and assessing advancement opportunities.
  • Assist with budgeting and sales forecasting, and ensure store process audits are conducted.
Required Qualifications

Experience: Retail, farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus. Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.

Education: High school diploma required; Bachelor’s in Agricultural Science or Business preferred. Equivalent experience considered.

Preferred knowledge, skills, or abilities
  • Valid driver’s license for company driving.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and merchandise processing.
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately.
  • Access to all store areas and ability to operate store equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work varied hours, including weekends and peak seasons.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel to other store locations and company events.
Working Conditions
  • Normal office environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing, walking, reaching overhead, driving, lifting up to 50 lbs.
