Overall Job Summary

The Manager Trainee is responsible for learning the duties of the Store Manager position and developing the skills required for a Store Manager role. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, building the team, driving sales, managing inventory, managing profit and sales, expense control, reducing and managing shrink.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Manager Trainee, you will observe and learn the following duties and skills required for a Store Manager role:

  1. Recruiting, hiring, developing, evaluating, disciplining, and retaining efficient team members.
  2. Delivering Legendary Customer Service through GURA: Greet the Customer, Uncover Needs & Wants, Recommend Solutions, Add Value & Appreciate.
  3. Creating a welcoming environment that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging among team members and customers.
  4. Scheduling, organizing, and planning daily activities for efficient store operations.
  5. Leading team members to ensure a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from competitors.
  6. Communicating company policies and evaluating processes for effectiveness.
  7. Learning to create a desirable work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
  8. Problem solving and conflict resolution for team members and customers.
  9. Learning sales and profit management—aiming for top and bottom line results.
  10. Promoting a safe and productive work environment.
  11. Managing merchandise flow, inventory controls, and merchandise resets.
  12. Coordinating and conducting sales events and supporting district needs.
  13. Developing team members for advancement and addressing team issues with HR support.
  14. Training on budgeting, sales forecasting, and store auditing.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience in retail, farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural-Science or Business preferred.
  • Ability to operate store equipment, access all store areas, and work varied hours including weekends and peak seasons.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Normal office conditions, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs., and driving.
