Job summary

The Salvation Army A Georgia Corp in Melbourne, FL is seeking a Store Clerk for a part-time 29-hour week. You will receive, sort, and prepare donated items, assist customers at the register, and help maintain orderly displays.

Applicants should have a High School diploma or GED, strong customer service and basic math skills, and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds. Prior cashier experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Directs donors to loading/unloading areas and maintains neat store displays.
• Keeps warehouse and sales floor orderly and clean.

Schedule/Hours: Tues - Sat. 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (29 Hours per week. Part-Time)This position is responsible for:Receives, sorts, and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Assumes responsibilities of Store Clerk as needed.Key Responsibilities:* Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.* Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.* Prepares non-suitable clothes for bailer.* Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.* Assists customers in purchasing items from The Salvation Army Store by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items.* Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area.* Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:* Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.* Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:*Ability to meet attendance requirements.* Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.* Ability to stand for extended periods of time.* Physical ability to life and carry and/or push/pull light objects up to 25 pounds.* Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:* Paid PTOEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred, AndAt least one (1) year experience cashieringorany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:None.Equal Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
