Job summary

The Salvation Army A Georgia Corp is seeking a Store Clerk to assist customers, process sales, and manage donated items for display. The role requires ringing up purchases, handling cash, preparing receipts, and balancing the cash drawer.

You will also sort donations, tag items, and maintain orderly display and sorting areas in a busy store environment. This position involves lifting and moving items, some Saturdays, and working in a warehouse-like setting with varying noise and weather

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; retail experience preferred.
• Knowledge of effective customer service techniques and basic math.

Responsibilities

• Ring up sales and handle cash using a cash register; collect money, give change, and prepare receipts.
• Balance cash drawer and run routine register print-outs; prepare and deposit bank deposits.
• Maintain neatness and security of the cash register area and ensure adequate supplies.
• Receive, inspect, and sort donated items by category and condition.
• Tag items with prices or codes and prepare for display; hang clothes and place on racks.
• Pack items in boxes for transport or storage; assist in moving boxes as needed.
• Prepare non-suitable clothes for the bailer; keep sorting room orderly and clean.
• Lift and carry items up to 25 lbs; perform duties in a warehouse environment.

Schedule/Hours: 8 hours per day/5 days per week (40 hours/week)NOTE: Some Saturdays RequiredThis position is responsible for:Receiving, sorting, and preparing donated items for display in the store; determines suitability of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the sorting room area. Assumes responsibilities of Store Clerk as needed.Key Responsibilities:Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.Prepares, processes and maintains various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepares routine sales reports as directed.Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to operate a cash register.Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change.Ability to stand for extended periods of time.Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.).Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
