Job summary

Smokin' Joe's in Des Moines, IA is seeking motivated Retail Sales Associates to be the face of our discount tobacco and alcohol retailer. You will engage customers, help them find products, and contribute to store success through friendly service and effective sales techniques.

Responsibilities include greeting customers, sharing product knowledge, upselling, operating the POS, cash control, stocking, and keeping the floor clean and inviting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of customer service experience preferred.
• Pass certifications for Selling Alcohol and Tobacco within allotted attempts.
• Complete Smokin' Joe's Associate New Hire Training Program.

• Provide outstanding customer service by greeting and assisting customers in a friendly manner.
• Communicate product knowledge effectively to help customers make informed purchasing decisions.
• Engage in upselling techniques to enhance the customer shopping experience and increase sales.

• Cash control, including shift drawer count and reconciliation.
• Maintain an organized and visually appealing sales floor by stocking shelves, arranging displays, and ensuring products are readily available.
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Maintain cleanliness inside and outside of store.
• Display a positive attitude and promote teamwork.
• Exhibit professionalism in appearance and conduct.

Requirements

Job Skills:

• Previous experience in retail sales or customer service is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers.
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to adapt to new environments and procedures rapidly.
• Familiarity with retail math concepts to assist in inventory management and sales reporting.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required by store operations
• Reliable.
• A proactive attitude towards upselling and promoting store promotions or events.
• Comfortable multi-tasking and adapt easily to change.
• Ability to work alone, including opening or closing the store.
• Basic knowledge of POS systems is a plus but not mandatory; training will be provided.
• Ability to commute to other stores within a 30 mile radius.

Education

• High school diploma/ GED (required)
• 1 year of customer service experience (preferred)
• Must be able to pass the required certifications for Selling Alcohol and Tobacco within the allotted attempts
• Must complete the Smokin' Joe's Associate New Hire Training Program
