Job summary

General Dynamics - IT is seeking a Senior Storage Systems Engineer to design, test, and implement secure storage and backup solutions across on-site government environments.

You will collaborate with Gov Tech Leads, storage vendors, and cloud providers, perform validation in test labs, and drive optimization to achieve ATO. Requires TS/SCI with Polygraph, DoD 8570 IAT Level II, and 8+ years of engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II or equivalent credentials.
• Bachelor’s degree in IT or 12+ years IT experience in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum 8 years of DOW or equivalent systems engineering experience.
• Expertise with enterprise storage and backup platforms (NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure, Cohesity, Rubrik, NetBackup) and HC solutions (VxRail, Nutanix).
• Full lifecycle SAN administration with utilization analysis and capacity planning.
• Experience with VMware and virtualized environments.
• Proficiency in Windows and Red Hat administration.
• Familiarity with cloud storage (AWS, Azure, Oracle).
• Broad understanding of virtualization, networking, data center migration, and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

• Participate in requirement analysis, solution design, testing, and implementation of next-gen storage and backup systems on/off premise.
• Collaborate with Gov Tech Leads, storage vendors, and cloud providers to evaluate emerging storage technologies.
• Develop and maintain the storage demonstration environment in the designated test lab.
• Develop and execute test plans for storage and backup solutions.
• Perform root cause analysis for major issues and recommend improvements.
• Provide storage upgrade recommendations and support system integration activities.
• Provide Tier 3/4 support to storage and backup platforms.
• Conduct system security engineering with a Storage/SAN focus.
• Install, monitor, and optimize storage solutions to achieve Authorize to Operate (ATO).

In this role, a typical day will include:

What you’ll need:

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
• Meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II requirements (e.g. Security+ CE, SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, CySA+, etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field, or 12+ years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree
• Minimum 8 years of DOW or equivalent systems engineering experience
• Expertise with enterprise storage and backup platforms (e.g., NetApp, Dell/EMC, Pure Storage, Cohesity, Rubrik, NetBackup) and hyper‑converged solutions (VxRail, Nutanix).
• Full lifecycle SAN administration experience including utilization analysis and capacity planning
• Experience with VMware and virtualized environments
• Proficiency in Windows and Red Hat administration
• Familiarity with cloud storage solutions (AWS, Azure, Oracle)
