Job summary

Bristol Hospice is seeking a dedicated State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) to join our Cincinnati team. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to deliver compassionate personal care and support to patients, promoting comfort and dignity in their daily routine.

The role emphasizes safety, confidentiality, and teamwork within our interdisciplinary group, with responsibilities ranging from personal care to meal assistance and routine monitoring of patient condition.

Qualifications

  • STNA certification required or current
  • Experience in hospice or long-term care preferred
  • Ability to perform personal care and daily living activities with dignity

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care including baths, oral hygiene, and grooming.
  • Assist with feeding and nutrition as assigned by the Case Manager.
  • Monitor patient condition and report changes to the nurse/case manager.
  • Maintain safety and comfort, use equipment properly (e.g., foot stools, side rails).
  • Document and communicate patient needs and care provided.
  • Support mobility and transfers as directed by hospice staff.

The State Tested Nurse Aide plays a critical role as a member of the Interdisciplinary Group Team. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and perform various services for patients to meet their personal needs and promote comfort.

QualificationsOn an Average Day You Will:

(includes but not limited to)

  • Perform personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attend to his/her requests promptly; if unable to perform a certain task, report to the Case Manager immediately
  • Provide patient and family with positive communication techniques, within realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality
  • Meet safety needs of patient and use equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, O2 etc.)
  • Provide personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos and changing bed linen as often as assigned
  • Assist in dressing and undressing patients, as assigned
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including shopping, as assigned
  • Assist in feeding the patient, as assigned
  • Take and record oral, rectal and auxiliary temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency
  • Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence
  • Assess and report on patient's condition and significant changes to the Case Manager; also, being aware of the caregiver or other individuals living with the patient and interpersonal issues
  • Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist
  • Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning, as directed
