Job summary

Hotel Equities is seeking a dependable Steward to join our kitchen team. You will clean dishes, sanitize spaces, and ensure supplies are available to the culinary team to deliver great dining experiences.

We value teamwork, attention to detail, and safety; prior restaurant or hotel dishwashing experience preferred. This position offers competitive starting pay of $16.50 per hour, with benefits and career growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel kitchen, dishwashing, or food service environment preferred.
• Basic knowledge of kitchen sanitation, cleaning procedures, and food safety practices preferred.
• Ability to operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and use approved cleaning products.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Clean, wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
• Operate commercial dishwashing machines and other cleaning equipment per procedures.
• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen areas and stations.
• Follow health department regulations, food safety guidelines, and sanitation standards.
• Monitor dishwashing equipment and report maintenance concerns.
• Ensure access to clean dishes, utensils, and equipment during service.
• Handle, store, and dispose of waste and cleaning materials properly.
• Sweep, mop, and clean floors and work areas for safety.
• Assist with organizing kitchen supplies and equipment.
• Support culinary staff with basic prep and organization tasks.
• Assist in training new stewards on cleaning procedures and sanitation.

Job Description

Job Purpose

The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout the kitchen and food service areas. This position supports daily culinary operations by cleaning and sanitizing dishes, utensils, equipment, and workspaces while ensuring compliance with established food safety and sanitation standards.

Working closely with culinary and food and beverage teams, the Steward helps maintain an efficient, safe, and well-organized kitchen environment that supports exceptional guest service.

What You'll Do

• Clean, wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.

• Safely operate commercial dishwashing machines and other kitchen cleaning equipment in accordance with established procedures.

• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen areas, including dishwashing stations, food preparation areas, storage spaces, and floors.

• Follow all applicable health department regulations, food safety guidelines, and company sanitation standards.

• Monitor dishwashing equipment and report maintenance or operational concerns to the appropriate department.

• Ensure kitchen associates have access to clean dishes, utensils, and equipment throughout service periods.

• Properly handle, store, and dispose of waste, recycling, and cleaning materials.

• Sweep, mop, and clean kitchen floors and work areas to maintain a safe working environment.

• Assist with organizing and maintaining kitchen supplies, cleaning products, and equipment.

• Support culinary associates with basic kitchen preparation and organization tasks as needed.

• Assist with training new stewards on cleaning procedures, sanitation practices, and equipment operation when assigned.

• Help verify that assigned cleaning and sanitation tasks are completed according to established standards.

• Identify and promptly report potential safety hazards, sanitation concerns, or equipment issues.

• Maintain a professional, positive, and cooperative attitude when interacting with guests and associates.

• Follow all company, hotel brand, safety, and operational policies and procedures.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Perform repetitive movements associated with washing, cleaning, and handling kitchen equipment.

• Work in environments with varying temperatures, including hot kitchens, dishwashing areas, and refrigerated storage spaces.

• Safely handle cleaning chemicals and sanitation products in accordance with established safety procedures.

• Work around wet floors, hot surfaces, and commercial kitchen equipment while following established safety precautions.

• Maintain the visual and hearing abilities necessary to perform essential job responsibilities.
