Job summary

FlexStaff is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to disassemble, clean, sterilize and package sterile supplies in a hospital setting. You will follow department procedures to select the proper sterilization method for various instrumentation and operate washers, sterilizers and related equipment.

You must maintain instrument counts, rotate trays, and uphold safety protocols while documenting daily activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) or provisional (CRCST) required.
• Must complete annual NY State continuing education credits.
• Experience processing surgical instruments preferred.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds and stand/bend for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, clean, sterilize, reassemble and package sterile supplies per specs.
• Use appropriate sterilization method for various instrumentation.
• Operate washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and EO sterilizers, heat sealers.
• Maintain instrument counts and rotate trays per guidelines.
• Adhere to safety protocols and proper body mechanics.
• Retrieve used trays and equipment for decontamination.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness and function; report issues.
• Communicate instrument needs to perioperative staff and transport supplies.
• Maintain department inventory and records per policies.
• Comply with AORN, AAMI and Joint Commission monitoring standards.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) OR provisional certification (CRCST)

Annual NY State continuing education credits

Experience processing surgical instruments (preferred)
