Responsibilities

• Lead and guide SPD staff; act as Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
• Assist SPD Supervisor in meeting department production requirements.
• Oversee case cart management and communicate issues to SPD Supervisor.
• Discuss instrument needs with the SPD Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and OR Clinical Coordinators.
• Ensure equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to SPD Supervisor or appropriate department.
• Maintain departmental compliance logs and assist with policy enforcement.
• Assist with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
• Protect staff and facility by following policies to prevent spread of diseases.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years' experience in Sterile Processing.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required. Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
2. Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
3. Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
4. Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
5. Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
6. Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
7. Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
8. Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
9. Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
10. Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s)
