Job summary

Atrium Health Lexington is seeking a Sterile Processing Supervisor to oversee the sterile processing cycle and guide SPD staff. A HS diploma or GED with two years in Sterile Processing is required, with CSPDT certification and management certification encouraged within three years of hire.

The role includes coordinating case carts, maintaining production, ensuring equipment functionality, and enforcing department policies while liaising with OR teams and SPD leadership.

Qualifications

  • Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide SPD employees across the sterile processing cycle.
  • Assume Sterile Processing Supervisor responsibilities when assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining department production by directing SPD staff.
  • Assist with case carts management and communicate issues to SPD Supervisor.
  • Communicate instrument needs with SPD Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and OR Clinical Coordinators.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning and report issues to SPD Supervisor or appropriate department.
  • Assist with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
  • Assist SPD Manager with policy implementation and enforcement.
  • Contribute to special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
  • Follow policies to prevent spread of bloodborne and airborne diseases.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, And/or REGISTRATION

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required.

Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

Essential Functions
  • Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
  • Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
  • Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
  • Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
  • Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
  • Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
  • Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
  • Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
  • Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
  • Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s)
Skills/Qualifications

Ability to stand for long periods.

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and others as needed. Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft.

Work Environment

Exposure to hazards associated with bodily fluids and tissue.

Regular exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases.

Exposure to chemical agents used in cleaning.

Exposure to hazards of steam and heat, may be subject to burns.

Loud stressful environment due to equipment and high demands.

Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

Subject to many interruptions.

Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Exposure to sharp instruments that may cause cuts or abrasions.

Must wear PPE.
