Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED with two years of sterile processing experience.
• Certification as CSPDT or another sterile processing certification is required.
• Sterile Processing Management certification is strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and education across the SPD team on the sterile processing cycle.
• May assume Sterile Processing Supervisor responsibilities when assigned.
• Assist supervisor in meeting department production targets and direct SPD staff.
• Assist with case carts management and communicate issues to the SPD Supervisor.
• Communicate instrument needs effectively with Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and OR Coordinators.
• Ensure equipment functionality and report issues to the Supervisor or appropriate department.
• Assist with maintenance of departmental compliance logs and policy enforcement.
• Support special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years' experience in Sterile Processing.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required. Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• 1. Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
• 2. Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
• 3. Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
• 4. Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
• 5. Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
• 6. Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
• 7. Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
• 8. Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
• 9. Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
• 10. Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s)

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to stand for long periods
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and others as needed
• Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft
