Job summary

Atrium Health Davie Campus is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to prepare, sterilize and inspect instruments for surgical procedures, ensuring infection control and instrument integrity.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with CSPDT certification preferred but not required. Schedule is M-F 11:00–19:30 and duties emphasize teamwork, accurate cleaning, sorting, and maintaining logs.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to hospital standards and works in a cooperative team.
• Cleans instruments and equipment using approved methods.
• Inspects reusable items for quality.
• Sorts and assembles instruments and sets.
• Operates sterilizing units to produce sterile products and reduce infection risk.
• Maintains supplies and prep solutions.
• Performs daily checks of autoclaves and Steris units with indicators and tests.
• Maintains logs and records of sterilizers.
• Provides age-appropriate care as per age guidelines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED equivalent.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION

Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) preferred, not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
• Cleans instruments and equipment using appropriate method and equipment.
• Ensures the correct inspection of reusable items.
• Sorting and assembling instruments and/or sets.
• Operates sterilizing units for production of sterile products to reduce risk of nosocomial infections.
• Ensures the availability of sterilization supplies and prep solutions.
• Daily checks autoclaves and Steris Units with biological indicators and air removal test kits as required. Maintains proper logs, records and charts of sterilizers.
• Maintains technical knowledge.
• Provides age/developmentally appropriate care as provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to operate equipment, such as sterilization equipment, washer sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner, flash autoclave and high van autoclave.
• Ability to communicate effectively with other medical professionals.
• Knowledge of basic and specialty operating room instrumentation.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
