Job summary

Penn State Health in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Staff Nurse, RN for a 0.90 FTE Evening shift on a 28-bed unit caring for LVAD and advanced heart failure patients. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care while coordinating with the medical team.

The role includes a mandatory Nursing degree progression plan within four years of hire and a January 2015 policy on continued education. A $3.00/hour evening shift differential applies and a $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for

Summary of Position

The Staff Nurse, RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients, establishing goals and priorities of nursing care, developing written care plans that include patient education and discharge planning, and documenting care. The RN works collaboratively with medical staff in matters of patient care.

Department Description

The 28‑bed mixed‑acuity unit cares for patients who have been implanted with an LVAD, as well as acute cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and congenital heart patients. The unit is an AACN Silver Beacon Award winner with a 1:2‑3 nurse‑to‑patient ratio and a dedicated charge nurse. Nurses manage complex patients, including vasopressors, IV drips, and advanced Heart Failure care with LVADs and continuous inotrope support.

Minimum Qualifications

• Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact. Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit required.

Note: Penn State Hershey requires all registered nurses hired after July 1, 2015 to enroll in a baccalaureate nursing degree program within one year of hire and complete it within four years.
