IHA seeks a Sterile Processing Technician II to support hospital and affiliated facilities with decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of instruments. You will maintain efficient flow of processing, anticipating health care provider requests and patient care needs.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma (or equivalent), graduation from a sterile processing program, 1 year of Sterile Processing experience, and CBSPD or HSPA certification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from a sterile processing program.
• Certification in Central Sterile Processing through CBSPD or HSPA.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Sterile Processing department.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate instruments using washer/decontaminator equipment and proper hand-washing.
• Assemble instruments ensuring cleanliness and proper function.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization through packaging, rigid container systems, and wrapping techniques.
• Sterilize instruments by loading carts and operating Steam and Low Temperature sterilizers.
• Handle sterilized instruments for storage and distribution.
• Maintain efficient processing flow and anticipate health care provider requests.

Maintains efficient flow of processing procedures, through appropriate case set-up, anticipation of health care provider requests and patient care needs.

What the Sterile Processing Technician II ( SPT ) will do:

• Properly identifies and decontaminates instruments through use of washer/decontaminator equipment and proper hand-washing techniques.
• Assembles instruments correctly, ensuring appropriate cleanliness and function is achieved.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization through proper packaging, rigid container system, and wrapping techniques.
• Sterilizes instruments by correctly loading carts and operating sterilizers (Steam Sterilizer and Low Temperature).
• Properly handles sterilized instruments for storage and distribution.
• Maintains efficient flow of processing procedures, through appropriate case cart set-up, anticipation of health care provider requests and patient care needs.
• Maintains the GI unit environment and endoscopic equipment, accessories, and supplies as directed. Ensures proper use, function, and safety within infection control guidelines.
• Ensures all endoscopes are cleaned and disinfected according to institutional policy and procedures.
• Ensures endoscopic accessories are cleaned and sterilized after use.
• Ensures that a leakage test is performed following each use of endoscope per manufacturer recommendations.
• Make sure to check angulation of scopes as needed.
• Send out endoscopes in need of repair and communicate that with Manager and Service Line Lead.
• Implements universal precautions.
