Job summary

Progress West Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to support the OR team with instrument prep, sterilization, and case-cart assembly. This PRN role features variable hours and requires teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include assembling instrument sets, operating steam sterilizers, decontaminating equipment, and transporting supplies and patients as needed. Education: High School Diploma or GED; experience <2 years; licensure in area of expertise preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience: < 2 years; 2–5 years preferred.
• Cert/Lic in Area of Expertise required.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instrument sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
• Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
• Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.
• Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.
• Transports patients with any necessary materials and documents to treat or diagnose.

Overview

Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.

Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.

Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Function as a team member in the operating room to support medical and nursing staff during the pre, intra, and post-operative phase, including preparing equipment and supplies for use by the medical team, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and reusable supplies, assembling case carts/trays and performing direct patient care as needed.
