Job summary

The Sterile Processing Technician at MUSC reports to the Manager of Sterile Processing. Under general supervision, you will decontaminate, clean, process and sterilize instruments in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

Minimum 0–1 year SPD experience is expected, with a High School Diploma or GED and IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification. Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced health care environment and maintain meticulous attention to detail.

Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes. Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Detail-oriented required. Must have 0-1 year experience as SPD Tech.

Certifications

Must have certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management).If not certified upon hire, will have one year to obtain certification.

Additional Job Description

High School Diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). Minimum of one (1) year of sterile processing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting.Successful completion of the department’s internal written and practical exam, as well as meeting required performance and productivity standards, is required to attain and maintain Sterile Processing II status.
