Job summary

Overview

The Sterile Processing Technician reports to the Manager of Sterile Processing. Under general supervision, the technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, cleaning, preparation, and sterilization of instruments in accordance with department policies and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions; effective verbal and written communication.
• Basic computer skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare environment; excellent interpersonal skills; detail-oriented.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician (SPD).

Certifications

• Must have one of the following certifications from IAHCSMM or CBSPD: CRCST, HSPA, or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for long periods; ability to walk, climb stairs, and work in confined spaces; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted; ability to perform repetitive motions; vision, hearing, and tactile requirements as described by job standards.
