Job summary

Baystate New England Orthopedic Surgery Center in Springfield, MA, is seeking a Central Processing Sterile Technician to clean, sterilize, assemble, and store surgical instruments and equipment. You will support the perioperative process and patient safety through accurate labeling and inventory management.

The role emphasizes adherence to sterilization standards, collaboration with surgical teams, and maintaining a compliant sterile processing area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Prior experience in sterile processing preferred.
• Certification in CBSPD or IAHCSMM preferred (or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire).
• Current BLS certification required.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Clean, inspect, sterilize, and package instruments and equipment according to standards.
• Assemble instrument trays and maintain accurate labeling and storage.
• Operate sterilizers, washers, and related equipment safely and effectively.
• Monitor and maintain sterile supply inventory; check for outdated or compromised items.
• Support patient safety, infection prevention, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with teammates, physicians, and other staff.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and compliant sterile processing work area.
