Job summary

Sierra Medical Center is part of Northern Nevada Health System and provides acute care services including ER, cardiology, labor and delivery, and NICU. The Central Sterile Technician supports surgical teams by ensuring sterilizers and equipment are properly maintained and tested daily.

Responsibilities include operating sterilizers, performing daily biological and chemical tests, inspecting equipment, and ensuring decontamination standards are met to deliver safe patient care.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience as Central Service Technician.
• Obtains national certification within 18 months of hire into the department.

Responsibilities

• Ensures proper operation of sterilizers (Steam, Ethylene Oxide and Sterrad units prior to use on a daily basis).
• Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift for both SPD and the OR. Records results in appropriate log.
• Inspects all sterilizers for visible signs of malfunction and reports to SPD Supervisor.
• Cleans and decontaminates all equipment and instruments using the proper tools and cleaning agents.
