Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our clinical team. You will clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, package, store and distribute reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring sterility and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Must be certified within 18 months of hire or meet state grandfathering guidelines; minimum of 2 years related experience; HS diploma or GED; Certification: HSPA or CBSPD.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly and packaging of sterile instruments.
  • Sterilize, store and distribute reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor and operate sterilization equipment and maintain sterility throughout processes.
  • Prepare and deliver equipment for surgeries and medical procedures.
  • Maintain records of sterilization procedures and inventory; manage supplies and expiration dates.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new employees and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Job Summary Geisinger is proud to offer a Sterile Processing Technician a $1,500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse!

Job Duties
  • Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies.
  • Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
  • Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
  • Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
  • Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
  • Acts as a preceptor new employees.
  • Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
  • Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
  • Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
  • Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
  • Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
