Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is seeking a Regular full-time Sterile Processing Technician for weekend nights. Shift is 7pm–7:30am, with a $3,000 signing bonus if eligible, and training provided to obtain the required certification within 18 months.

Responsibilities include cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of instruments to ensure sterility and patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certification within 18 months: HSPA or CBSPD, otherwise state grandfathering applies.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble and sterilize reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Package, store and distribute sterilized items, maintaining sterility and proper functionality.
  • Collect used equipment for sorting and decontamination, and operate decontamination equipment.
  • Prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization and monitor sterilization equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new employees and maintain sterilization records.

Job Summary: $3000 Signing Bonus, if eligible; Full-Time; Weekend Nights; Friday, Saturday, Sunday; 7pm - 7:30am;

REQUIRES: High School Diploma or GED, CRCST certification through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required within 18 months of hire or must meet state grandfathering guidelines. TRAINING PROVIDED to obtain required certification. ALREADY CERTIFIED? We value your expertise and base your compensation on your related experience.

Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies.

Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.

Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.

Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.

Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.

Acts as a preceptor new employees.

Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.

Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.

Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.

Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.

Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.

Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
