Job summary

Mass General Brigham in Boston's healthcare system is seeking a lead Sterile Processing Technician to serve as the technical and operational resource within the Sterile Processing Department, coordinating workflow and guiding staff.

You will collaborate with operating rooms and procedural areas, support staff training and quality assurance initiatives, and assist leadership with administrative tasks as assigned. Schedule: 11:00am to 7:30pm, Monday to Friday, onsite at 102 Endicott Street.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• Licenses: CRCST or CIS or CER certification required
• Experience: 3-5 years in Central Sterile or similar role
• Knowledge: infection prevention, regulatory requirements, QA practices

Responsibilities

• Performs all responsibilities of Sterile Processing Technician I–III
• Serves as department lead resource and SME for processing practices and equipment
• Provides day-to-day guidance, workflow coordination, and technical support to staff
• Coordinates instrument, equipment, and service needs with ORs and procedural areas
• Supports staff training, onboarding, competency development, and continuing education
• Assists with quality assurance, process improvements, and implementation of new technologies
• Acts as a troubleshooting resource for instrumentation and workflow issues
• Assists leadership with operational, administrative, and personnel activities

Job Summary

Schedule: 11:00am to 7:30pm Monday to Friday

Summary: Responsible for serving as the lead technical and operational resource within the Sterile Processing Department. Performs advanced sterile processing functions while providing day-to-day coordination, technical guidance, and operational support to staff. Collaborates with procedural areas to support service needs, assists with departmental initiatives, and may support leadership with designated operational and personnel-related activities.

Essential Functions

• Performs all responsibilities of the Sterile Processing Technician I, II, and III roles.
• Serves as the department's lead technical resource and subject matter expert for sterile processing practices, instrumentation, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
• Provides day‑to‑day guidance, workflow coordination, and technical support to staff to promote operational efficiency and service excellence.
• Assists in coordinating instrument, equipment, and service needs with operating rooms, procedural areas, and other customers.
• Supports staff training, onboarding, competency development, and ongoing education activities.
• Assists with quality assurance activities, process improvement initiatives, implementation of new technologies, and departmental projects.
• Serves as a resource for troubleshooting complex instrumentation, equipment, workflow, and customer service issues.
• May assist leadership with operational, administrative, and personnel‑related activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

• Licenses and Credentials: Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or C.S.P.D.T - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. required; Certified Instrument Specialist [CIS] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor [CER] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required.
• Experience: Experience as a Central Sterile Technician 3 -5 years required
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of infection prevention, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance practices. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to serve as a subject matter expert and provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance. Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills Experience with instrument tracking systems and specialty certifications preferred.
