Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Central Sterile Technician to independently perform sterile processing, decontamination, assembly, and distribution of instruments. You will operate washers and sterilizers, inspect items, and maintain traceability using tracking systems.

Schedule is Monday to Friday, 9:30am–6:00pm, onsite at 102 Endicott Street. Requires HL Diploma, 1–2 years experience, and CRCST/CSPD certification. EEO employer with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Experience: 1-2 years as Central Sterile Technician or similar.
• Licenses: CRCST or CSPD certification required.
• Knowledge: Sterile processing principles, infection prevention standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of devices and instrumentation.
• Operates washers, sterilizers, and related equipment following policies and regulatory requirements.
• Inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality; identifies items needing repair or replacement.
• Assembles instrument trays and procedure sets per tray lists and standards.
• Uses instrument tracking systems to document processing and maintain traceability.
• Maintains inventory of sterile supplies and processing consumables.
• Transports instruments and supplies to support procedural areas.
• Communicates equipment malfunctions, processing concerns, and safety risks to staff.
• Complies with regulatory, infection prevention, and departmental standards.
• Participates in training, competency validation, and quality improvement.

Job Summary

Responsible for independently performing sterile processing activities, including the reprocessing of specialty instrumentation and equipment. Applies advanced knowledge of sterile processing practices, manufacturer instructions for use (IFU), and departmental standards to support quality, productivity, and customer service objectives.Does this position require Patient Care? Essential Functions

• Performs decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation in accordance with established procedures and manufacturer's Instructions for Use (IFU).
• Operates sterile processing equipment, including washers, sterilizers, and related technologies, following departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
• Inspect instruments and equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and completeness; identifies items requiring repair or replacement.
• Assembles instrument trays, procedure sets, and equipment according to standardized tray listings and quality standards.
• Utilizes instrument tracking systems to document processing activities and maintain traceability of reusable medical devices.
• Maintains inventory of sterile supplies, processing consumables, and departmental stock to support operational needs.
• Transports instruments, equipment, and supplies to support procedural and patient care areas.
• Recognizes and communicates equipment malfunctions, processing concerns, quality issues, and safety risks to appropriate personnel.
• Complies with applicable regulatory, accreditation, infection prevention, and departmental standards.
• Participates in training, competency validation, and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials: Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or C.S.P.D.T - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. required

Experience: Experience as a Central Sterile Technician or similar role in a healthcare setting 1-2 years required

• Working knowledge of sterile processing principles, instrumentation, sterilization methods, and infection prevention standards.
• Proficiency in instrument assembly, packaging, sterilization, and equipment handling.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Understanding of workflow prioritization and departmental operations in a healthcare environment.
