Job summary

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech IV to operate independently and mentor SP staff on the evening shift.

The role inspects, cleans, assembles and sterilizes surgical instrument sets, runs cleaning equipment, and supports OR resources while meeting quality metrics and training junior technicians.

Qualifications

• High school or GED required with minimum five years instrument processing experience.
• Certification: CBSPD or CRCST, and CER/CFER or equivalent certifications.
• Ability to assemble and sterilize instrument sets across specialties.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean, assemble and sterilize instrument sets.
• Operate sterilization equipment and maintain quality performance metrics.
• Mentor and orient SP Techs I–III and coordinate department activities.
• Serve as OR resource in the absence of the supervisor.

The Sterile Processing Tech IV possesses knowledge and skill necessary to function independently as an expert Sterile Processing Technician and will be responsible to mentor and orient new staff and students. The senior technician coordinates the overall activities within the Sterile Processing Department on their assigned shift and acts as the department and OR resource, in the absence of the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Inspects, cleans, assembles and sterilizes surgical instrument sets. Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment in order to clean instruments and supplies. Is proficient in the technical and quality performance metrics. Guides and assists SP Techs I, II, III. Performs QA audits

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum five years instrument processing experience required. Must have demonstrated competence in all instrument set assembly and sterilization to include all specialties.
• CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or CRCST (Certified and Registered Central Service Technician), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), formerly IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) certification; and CER or CFER, or equivalent 2 certifications (e.g. CIS, CHL).

Salary Range:

Minimum 29.52/hour - Maximum 29.52/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
