Job summary

Johns Hopkins Medicine is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech IV for the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. This full-time evening shift (3pm–11:30pm) role involves mentoring staff, coordinating department activities, and performing instrument assembly and sterilization to support surgical services.

The position requires a minimum of five years in instrument processing, specific certifications (CBSPD or equivalent and CER/CFER), and a strong commitment to quality metrics.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years instrument processing experience required. Must have demonstrated competence in all instrument set assembly and sterilization to include all specialties.
• CER or CFER, or equivalent 2 certifications (e.g. CIS, CHL).

Responsibilities

• Coordinates the overall activities within the Sterile Processing Department on the assigned shift.
• Inspects, cleans, assembles and sterilizes surgical instrument sets.
• Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment to clean instruments and supplies.
• Proficient in technical and quality performance metrics.
• Guides and assists SP Techs I, II, III. Performs QA audits.

The Sterile Processing Tech IV possesses knowledge and skill necessary to function independently as an expert Sterile Processing Technician and will be responsible to mentor and orient new staff and students. The senior technician coordinates the overall activities within the Sterile Processing Department on their assigned shift and acts as the department and OR resource, in the absence of the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Inspects, cleans, assembles and sterilizes surgical instrument sets. Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment in order to clean instruments and supplies. Is proficient in the technical and quality performance metrics. Guides and assists SP Techs I, II, III. Performs QA audits

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum five years instrument processing experience required. Must have demonstrated competence in all instrument set assembly and sterilization to include all specialties.
• CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or CRCST (Certified and Registered Central Service Technician), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), formerly IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) certification; and CER or CFER, or equivalent 2 certifications (e.g. CIS, CHL).

Salary Range: Minimum 29.52/hour - Maximum 29.52/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
