Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a sterile processing technician to decontaminate, clean, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments. This role supports safe patient care through proper instrumentation processing and adherence to policies and regulatory standards.

Under direct supervision, you will learn sterile processing principles and contribute to a clean, organized department with attention to safety and accuracy in record-keeping.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Pass a nationally accredited central service exam within 18 months of hire; maintain CRCST or CSPDT certification.
• CST or tech in surgery certification meets licence requirement.

Responsibilities

• Follows safety and infection control policies and uses PPE as required.
• Receives and sorts contaminated instruments from various departments.
• Disassembles instruments and cleans them with appropriate agents and equipment.
• Inspects cleaned instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.
• Assembles instrument sets according to count sheets and tray lists.
• Wraps or packages instruments and sets for sterilization.
• Monitors sterilization cycles and interprets printouts for proper parameters.
• Operates automated washing and decontamination equipment.
• Loads and operates sterilization equipment.
• Documents sterilization cycles and maintains records.
• Delivers sterile items to requesting departments promptly.
• Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
