Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, and distributing surgical instruments. The role focuses on ensuring that surgical instruments are processed properly and available for use in patient care areas while adhering to health and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a High School/GED, and certifications as required. This position offers a supportive learning environment for those entering the field.

Qualifications

• Pass a nationally accredited central service exam within 18 months of hire.
• Surgical Technologist holding active CST or TSC certification is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Follows all safety and infection control policies and procedures.
• Receives and sorts contaminated instruments and equipment.
• Disassembles instruments and cleans them using appropriate cleaning agents.
• Inspects cleaned instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.
• Assembles instrument sets according to established count sheets.
• Wraps or packages instruments and sets for sterilization.
• Monitors sterilization cycles to ensure parameters are met.
• Operates and maintains automated washing and decontamination equipment.
• Loads and operates sterilization equipment.
• Documents sterilization cycles and maintains records.
• Delivers sterile items to requesting departments.
• Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
