Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Senior Sterile Processing Technician to lead decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments. You will mentor staff, train new hires, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and quality control measures.

You will operate automated washers and sterilizers, inspect instruments for cleanliness and function, and maintain precise records while delivering items to departments in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required at hire; exception for Central Processing Technicians employed by a healthcare facility on or before 12/29/2020.
• Surgical Technologist with CST or TSC certification meets license requirement.
• 2 years of experience with sterile processing.
• Preferred: sterile processing or six months hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a technical resource and mentor for other sterile processing technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
• Assists with the training of new employees.
• Independently disassembles instruments and cleans them using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
• Operates and maintains automated washing and decontamination equipment; can troubleshoot complex issues.
• Inspects cleaned instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and damage.
• Receives and sorts contaminated instruments and equipment from various departments.
• Assembles complex instrument sets according to established count sheets and tray lists.
• Wraps or packages instruments and sets for sterilization.
• Loads and operates sterilization equipment; troubleshoots as needed.
• Monitors sterilization cycles and interprets printouts to ensure parameters are met.
• Documents sterilization cycles and maintains records.
• Delivers sterile items to requesting departments and prioritizes urgent requests.
• Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
• Follows safety and infection control policies and uses PPE.
• Assists in training new employees on department procedures and equipment.
