Job summary

UNM Hospitals is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support Surgical Services with instrument processing, terminal sterilization, inventory control and case preparation for the Operating Room. The role requires a Sterile Processing Technician training and Sterile Processing Certification (or equivalent), plus at least 2 years of related experience.

Job duties include receiving, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing instruments, and maintaining equipment and records.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Sterile Processing Technician training and Sterile Processing Certification required.
• Flexible Endoscope Reprocessing Certification within 1 year of position required.
• Minimum 2 years directly related experience.

Responsibilities

• Receive, unload and sort contaminated instruments the completed cases; separate and load instruments into carriers/racks for processing and place instruments on storage racks and case carts.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness; check decontaminated instruments; ensure complete assembly; reassemble instrument sets and power equipment.
• Operate sterilizers and load sterilization carts; monitor autoclaves and maintain equipment.
• Prepare and control instruments for rapid turnaround for the next case; educate others on proper use of priority processes.
• Record required information for monitoring every load of sterilized items to ensure all parameters were met.
