Job summary

Surgery Partners in California is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician responsible for the care and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies according to AAMI standards, and for maintaining inventory and ordering supplies for the area.

The technician conducts sterilizer testing, keeps accurate records, and ensures aseptic techniques while supporting OR turnover and compliance with safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Instrument technician experience, 2 years or equivalent experience.
• Certified Sterile Processing Certificate required.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and principles of sterilization and instrument handling.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Organizes time, equipment, and supplies for OR readiness.
• Uses equipment properly to prevent breakage or loss of instruments.
• Maintains aseptic technique according to standards.
• Manages inventory of supplies and equipment in instrument and decontamination rooms.
• Performs daily sterilizer testing and maintains logs.
• Performs cleaning, wrapping and sterilization using methods including steam, Sterrad, Steris, and endoscope reprocessing.
• Ensures instruments are accounted for on receipt from the OR.
• Assists in turnover of OR rooms between cases.
