Job summary

Orlando Health, Inc. is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech II to join the DPH Sterile Processing department. This full-time role features four 10-hour shifts, including Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with Saturday/Sunday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM and flexible start times on Fridays and Mondays.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Nationally certified through HSPA or CBSPD; CEUs as required by certifying body.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Surgery Clinical staff to assess, troubleshoot and support trauma and tertiary care procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the full sterilization process, infection control, sterility maintenance, and aseptic technique.
  • Serve as a mentor for the Sterile Processing team and surgical clinical staff.
  • Lead in the absence of the Manager or Coordinator.
  • Distribute instrument trays for surgical case carts per surgery schedule and surgeon preferences.
  • Maintain documentation and monitor chemical, mechanical, and biological sterilization processes.
  • Orient new team members and advocate for patient safety in instrument sterilization.

Responsibilities


  • Works directly with Surgery Clinical staff and managers to assess, troubleshoot and make recommendations for all trauma and tertiary care surgical procedures.

  • Demonstrates, through clinical practice, knowledge, and a clear understanding of the entire sterilization process, including infection control, instrument functional quality control, sterility maintenance, and aseptic technique.

  • Has high professional and ethical standards that are employed in making critical decisions in every aspect of the sterilization process.

  • The Sterile Processing Technician III is resource and mentor for the SP team and for the surgical clinical team.

  • Assumes lead role in the absence of Manager and/or Coordinator.

  • Participates in distribution of instrument trays for surgical case carts according to the requirements of the surgery schedule, pick lists and surgeon’s preference cards.

  • Demonstrates through practice a clear understanding of the instrumentation utilized during surgical procedures.

  • Responsible for daily record keeping and chemical, mechanical, & biological monitoring relative to sterilization processes.

  • Conducts orientation of new team members.

  • Works as the patient’s advocate regarding the most correct and safest form of sterilization for all patient care instrumentation and equipment.

  • Assures that through specific infection control procedures a safe environment is maintained.

  • Determines the best method of processing ever changing, highly technical tertiary patient care instrumentation and equipment.

  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.

  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures


Qualifications

Education/Training


  • High school graduate or equivalent.


Licensure/Certification


  • Nationally certified through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA); or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

  • Maintain required CEU’s in accordance with Certifying body.


Experience


  • Minimum 2 Years of Experience in Sterile Processing
