Orlando Health, Inc. is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech II for the DPH Sterile Processing department. This full-time role includes four 10-hour shifts: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with weekend hours as specified. The position is based in Orlando, FL, inside a major hospital campus.

The candidate will perform advanced sterile processing, uphold infection control and aseptic technique, mentor the SP team, and support surgical services across trauma and tertiary care procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Surgery Clinical staff to support trauma and tertiary procedures.
  • Maintains infection control, instrument quality, sterility, and aseptic technique throughout the process.
  • Acts as mentor for SP team and surgical clinical staff; leads in absence of Manager/Coordinator.
  • Distributes instrument trays for surgical case carts in line with schedule and surgeon cards.
  • Keeps daily records and monitors chemical, mechanical, and biological sterilization processes.

  • Saturday & Sunday shift times: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Friday & Monday shift times: Flexible on start times

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • The Sterile Processing Technician III has advanced knowledge of the function of surgical instrumentation during the course of patient care.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Works directly with Surgery Clinical staff and managers to assess, troubleshoot and make recommendations for all trauma and tertiary care surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrates, through clinical practice, knowledge, and a clear understanding of the entire sterilization process, including infection control, instrument functional quality control, sterility maintenance, and aseptic technique.
  • Has high professional and ethical standards that are employed in making critical decisions in every aspect of the sterilization process.
  • The Sterile Processing Technician III is resource and mentor for the SP team and for the surgical clinical team.
  • Assumes lead role in the absence of Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Participates in distribution of instrument trays for surgical case carts according to the requirements of the surgery schedule, pick lists and surgeon’s preference cards.
  • Demonstrates through practice a clear understanding of the instrumentation utilized during surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for daily record keeping and chemical, mechanical, & biological monitoring relative to sterilization processes.
  • Conducts orientation of new team members.
  • Works as the patient’s advocate regarding the most correct and safest form of sterilization for all patient care instrumentation and equipment.
  • Assures that through specific infection control procedures a safe environment is maintained.
  • Determines the best method of processing ever changing, highly technical tertiary patient care instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification
  • Nationally certified through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA); or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Maintain required CEU’s in accordance with Certifying body.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 Years of Experience in Sterile Processing
