Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician to ensure the safe and efficient reprocessing of instruments and supplies.

You will operate autoclave equipment, perform tests, and maintain accurate records while adhering to infection control standards. The role involves assembly of trays, labeling, and using our inventory system, with rotating weekend and holiday availability.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Experience or ability to learn computerized inventory system.
• Knowledge of general instrumentation.
• Understanding of infection control principles and sterilization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper operation of autoclave equipment daily.
• Perform biological and chemical tests during shifts and record results.
• Process contaminated instruments and supplies; clean, reassemble trays, replace damaged items.
• Wrap and package items using sterilization principles.
• Assemble instrument trays and label with date, initials and product name.
• Use correct sterilization methods for applicable items.
• Safely operate decontamination equipment (cart washer, washer/decontaminator, Steris System 1).
• Maintain clean, organized work areas ensuring aseptic handling of materials.
• Assemble case carts for OR/Day Surgery; use hospital system to order and charge supplies.
• Handle soiled instruments to be reprocessed and rotate inventory.
• Replenish and rotate Sterile Processing inventory; identify outdated supplies.
• Charge supplies through computerized inventory system and participate in training of new staff.
