Job summary

HSHS Medical Group operates the Central Sterile department at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. The Central Service Technician performs decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of sterile instrumentation to ensure high-quality patient care and safety.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED (preferred) and about 1 year of sterile processing experience. CRCST certification is preferred and must be obtained within 18 months of employment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year of sterile processing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of nursing procedures, aseptic technique, medical terminology, and infection control preferred.
• CRCST certification preferred; IL CRCST required within 18 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates, sterilizes, and distributes sterile surgical instrumentation.
• Ensures quality assurance and safe handling of equipment across the facility.
• Identifies and remedies equipment failures and hazards posing risks to patients.
