Job summary

Driscoll Children's Hospital is seeking a Sterilization Technician to monitor sterilizers, decontaminate instruments, and prepare supplies for safe reuse in the OR and other patient care areas.

The role requires maintaining sterile environments, adhering to confidentiality and hospital policies, and supporting daily operations with precise record-keeping. Rotating weekends and call schedules are part of the schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year hospital experience in handling instruments/equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Break down and decontaminate instruments following procedures.
• Set up trays and prepare for sterilization.
• Sterilize instruments according to OR/CPD protocols and standards.
• Monitor sterilization process and maintain records of parameters.
• Maintain a clean environment and inventory of supplies.

Shift / Days:

Sat. Sun. Mon. 6:30am - 7pm

All shifts require rotating weekends and call schedule

General Purpose of Job:

Monitors sterilizers and environment for sterilization, and processes instruments and supplies for use and reuse in a safe and timely manner to meet surgical and other patient care needs within the hospital.

• Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

• Break down and decontaminate instruments following procedure according to protocols.
• Set up trays and prepare for sterilization.
• Sterilize instruments and supplies according to Operating Room, Central Processing and manufacturer protocols and standards.
• Monitors sterilization process and maintains daily, permanent record of sterilization parameters according to hospital protocols and local, state and AAMI. standards.
• Maintains a clean environment by following daily cleaning protocol.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and instruments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Related hospital experience of minimum of 1 year in care of instruments, equipment or supplies, preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.

• Certification by HSPA preferred
