Position Summary:
The Per Diem Sterile Processing Technician will provide quality processed materials and equipment for safe patient care.
Education, License & Cert:
High School education or GED required. Must become central sterile processing certified within 18 months of hire to maintain employment.
Experience:
Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions. Must have good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the medical staff. Prior experience in the medical/surgical field or manufacturing preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Follows Standard Work in the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high‑level disinfection, and sterile storage areas to properly handle instruments/equipment to provide safe patient care. Utilizes instrument/equipment manufacturer’s instructions for use when necessary.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with other staff in the department, as well as other units. Represents the department and hospital in a professional, courteous manner.
- Attend and participate in departmental in‑services, huddles, and meetings. Understands key quality measures and demonstrates willingness to participate in problem solving and performance improvement activities.
- Assist, of necessary, with the orientation of new employees.
- Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility, prioritization, and critical thinking skills in performance of duties.
- Demonstrates knowledge and maintains competency of standard work / key work processes.
- Applies principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and modes of disease transmission to promote an infection free environment.
- Uses proper body mechanics when moving or transferring items to prevent injury to self or others.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Protects patient privacy and follows hospital/departmental policies and procedures.
