Job summary

CareWell Health Medical Center in East Orange, NJ is seeking a Central Service Technician to support decontamination, sterilization and tray assembly for surgical instrumentation.

You will maintain inventory, wrap sterilized trays, and ensure quality control, while supporting sterile processing and the operating room. The role requires reliable teamwork, adherence to safety standards, and ability to work holidays and weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA); certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Central Service Technician Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Monitors wash solutions to ensure quality and safety in decontamination and sterilization areas.
• Maintains inventory, submits requisitions, and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts and equipment.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in inventory control in sterile processing and operating room areas.
• Communicates effectively with team members and other departments to support infection control standards.

Job Summary

Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
• Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
• Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
• Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
• Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
• Maintains a clean work area
• Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
• Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills

Minimum Education/Certifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

One year of Central Service or Sterile Processing experience preferred
