Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville, VA is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Department supervisor/manager to oversee decontamination, prep, and sterilization operations. This role provides direct supervision of SPD staff, drives performance-improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with JCAHO, OSHA, and AAMI standards.

The position requires CRCST or CSPDT certification, 3 years of leadership in sterile processing, and an Associate’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Experience: 3 years progressive leadership experience in sterile processing, hospital setting preferred.
• Licensure: CRCST or CSPDT certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assure the standards of operation comply with regulatory agencies such as JCAHO, OSHA, and AAMI.
• Responsible for operations and processes related to decontamination, prepping, and sterilization of instruments.
• Provide direct supervision to SPD personnel and evaluate performance.
• Hire, evaluate, and develop staff; set criteria and expectations to meet department goals.
• Assign workload, standardize procedures, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Review attendance, approve time off, and ensure adequate coverage.
• Encourage mentoring and career development; coordinate orientation and in-service training.
• Lead departmental performance improvement activities and gather data for improvement.
• Act as champion of the SPD Instrument Tracking System and perform system admin duties.
• Utilize reporting to identify improvement opportunities; maintain the physical environment.
• Enforce fire and safety regulations and ensure compliance with guidelines.
