Job summary

Atlantic Health System in Morristown, NJ is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, prep and sterilize surgical instruments and patient care equipment. You will read, write and speak English and work to maintain infection control standards across shifts.

The role requires knowledge of instrument tracking systems and various sterilization methods; physical ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy instrument sets may be required. Safety and accuracy are essential.

Qualifications

• Reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
• Knowledge of case cart preparation, surgical instruments, decontamination and sterilization methods (Steam, HLD, hydrogen).
• Basic computer knowledge with instrument tracking system.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment and machinery; prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies per sterilization parameters.
• Cares for instruments; selects cleaning agents and lubricants appropriately.
• Peel-packs and wraps instruments; inspects for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
• Adheres to FSC policies, procedures and quality of service; ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors.
• Sets up, sterilizes and distributes instruments as scheduled on each shift.
• Handles and disposes of infectious waste properly.
• Adheres to Standard Precautions (gloves, masks, gowns, eye protection).
• Follows JCAHO/AAMI standards to maintain quality.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
