Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support surgeons and patients by coordinating instrument availability, decontamination, and sterilization across the OR and SPD teams.

Responsibilities include scheduling, instrument tracking, and adherence to OSHA and industry standards. The role requires 3–4 years in sterile processing and certification within 90 days if not already held. Day shift, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• IAHCSMM certification or obtain within 90 days.
• 3–4 years of sterile processing experience.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with instrument vendors to understand needs for upcoming cases and coordinate SPD processes to ensure instruments are available.
• Coordinate and communicate schedule changes between the OR and sterile processing; expedite decontamination and sterilization of priority trays.
• Review pick tickets daily for next day’s cases to ensure all needs can be met without interruption of service.
• Responsible for decontamination, disinfection and cleaning of various reusable surgical instruments using mechanical or handwashing methods per OSHA standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization processes for steam and chemical means; document and monitor indicators and biological testing.
• Enter, modify and search instrument tracking data; support case preparation and retrieval of instruments and supplies.
• Incorporate infection control guidelines during transfer, storage and transport of sterile packages.
• Follow industry standards (AAMI/AORN) and assist in training fellow associates.
