Job summary

The University of Iowa is seeking a CSS Quality/Education Specialist to unite quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and staff education across Central Sterilizing Services. This hybrid role, based at Medical Center Downtown and North Liberty, leads standardized processes, quality management systems, and education programs to ensure safe, efficient sterile processing operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field and 3+ years in sterile processing.
• Experience in staff training, education, or competency validation.
• Strong knowledge of sterile processing and medical device reprocessing.
• Proficiency with data analysis, reporting tools, and MS Office.
• Certification through HSPA or CBSPD required for hire; Endoscope reprocessing certification due within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Lead quality improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma.
• Develop and sustain CSS quality management processes.
• Conduct root cause analysis and action plans.
• Design audits and ensure corrective actions.
• Monitor KPIs and report to leadership.
• Provide education programs and competency assessments.
• Collaborate across CSS locations for standardization.
• Support regulatory readiness and audits.
