Job summary

University of Utah Health seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to sterilize and decontaminate instruments for operating rooms and clinics. You will assemble trays, track inventory, and ensure quality with biological indicators. You’ll supervise daily activities, train staff, and uphold safety and infection-control standards.

The role is not patient-facing. Candidates need 3 years of sterile processing experience and approved certifications (HSPA/CBSPD).

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of sterile processing experience.
• Certification as CIS, CER, or CHL from HSPA.
• CBSPD certifications such as CSIS, CSPM, etc.
• Certifications must be current and maintained per the cert body.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and sterilizes instruments and supplies per procedures.
• Assembles special trays, instrument trays and case carts.
• Delivers sterilized items and retrieves used supplies from locations.
• Inspects instruments for proper function and integrity.
• Documents patient charges for supplies and trays.
• Restocks labels, maintains inventory, and submits requisitions.
• Verifies equipment function and coordinates repairs if needed.
• Sorts instrument sets and makes them available to customers.
• Supports quality improvement, safety, and infection control standards.
• Coordinates daily activities and trains staff; monitors performance.
• May troubleshoot instrumentation needs for OR and departments.
• Acts as SME in sterilization methods and databases; may order supplies.
