Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join the Hugh Chatham department. You will operate sterilization equipment, decontaminate, inspect, and package instruments for the OR, and maintain processing documentation.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED with Sterile Processing experience preferred. You will work M-F 11am-7:30pm and participate in surge plans and weekend call as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Sterile Processing experience preferred.
• Ability to operate sterilization equipment and handle instruments with care.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and instrument tracking software.

Responsibilities

• Operates all department machinery and reports issues to supervisor.
• Performs manual and automated decontamination of instruments.
• Inspects instruments for cleanliness and proper function.
• Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
• Packages instruments per manufacturer instructions.
• Conducts sterilization and verifies adequacy of the process.
• Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
• Stores sterile containers in identified locations.
• Assembles case carts and delivers to the OR.
• Participates in weekday surge plan and weekend call.
• Assists team members as needed.
• Follows policies to prevent spread of blood-borne and airborne contaminants.

Essential Functions

• Operates all department machinery and promptly reports issues to the Instrument Processing Supervisor or Lead Instrument Technician.
• Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of instruments.
• Inspects instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
• Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
• Packages instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the sterilization process.
• Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
• Stores sterile containers in identified location.
• Assembles case carts according to the picklist and deliver to the OR.
• Participates in the department's weekday surge plan and weekend call.
• Assists other team members as needed.
• Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases.

• Ability to operate equipment such as the steam sterilizer, low temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Proficient communication skills
• Knowledge of instrument tracking software
