Job summary

Mercy in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Specialist for night shift. You will clean, decontaminate, process and sterilize instruments, inspect and assemble them for high-level disinfection, and maintain logs in our sterile processing department.

Role requires High School diploma or GED, CRCST or CSPDT certification, and basic computer skills. The team emphasizes safety, accuracy, and collaboration to support patient care goals.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Clean instruments and equipment in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization.
• Inspect, function test and assemble instruments for sterilization.
• Maintain written logs and computer system documentation.
• Prioritize instrumentation for processing and dispatch supplies.
• Answer telephones and support department workflows.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Specialist, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Instrument Technician:

Required Education: High School degree or GED equivalent

Preferred Experience: Prior healthcare related experience, basic knowledge of sterilization processes in a clinical setting.

Other: Basic computer skills

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.

Must be able to follow directions.

Must be able to operate equipment.

Instrument Technician II

Meets all requirements of both the Instrument Technician, and Instrument Technician I as well as the following requirements:

Required Experience: Minimum 6 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hours of hands-on experience in Sterile Processing

Required Certification: CRCST or CSPDT certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD
