Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals in Charleston, WV, seeks a patient care assistant to perform nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision. You will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

The role requires a high school diploma and BLS certification within 30 days. Prior patient care experience is preferred, and you will work 36 hours per week on PM shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assists the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures.
• Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
• Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent infections and ensure safety of patients, visitors and staff.
• Reports necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
• Communicates nutrition issues to RN (e.g., poor appetite or diet changes).
• Assists department with administrative tasks and answers patient call bells.
