Job Description

STEM Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Summary: The STEM teacher will provide instructional support to and will be willing to collaborate with teachers as they work to implement the Common Core State Standards through a STEM/PBL integrated model that encompasses the RSS mindset. The STEM teacher will meet with all K‑5 classes weekly to provide interdisciplinary learning opportunities centered around science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The STEM teacher will work to add more STEM resources for our teachers and students, working with the principal to better establish the STEM program and align it to the school’s Renewal Plan and vision of being a “school that thinks.” The ultimate goal is to create a stronger STEM program that challenges students each week to think critically.

Qualifications

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Delivers STEM‑oriented instruction to K‑5 students (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through Project‑Based Learning methods
  • Consistently uses hands‑on, exploratory practices with students
  • Provides students in K‑5 with maker space activities in which student must think through and solve problems
  • Teaches lessons that are appropriate to the maturity and interests of K‑5 students
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
  • Maintains STEM classroom and all robotics programs
  • Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment
  • Participates in professional growth and development and stays abreast of current research
  • Models the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in all curriculum areas and grade levels
  • Meets with the building principal to discuss STEM services and plan for related initiatives
  • Implements best practices for the district’s 1:1 initiative related to technology use in the school program
