Job summary

UT Health San Antonio SCTCT is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to partner with the SCTCT nurse manager in overseeing patient care for a 24-bed inpatient unit. The ANM leads nursing staff, coordinates staffing, and supports unit operations and strategic planning on a rotating schedule including night shifts and administrative duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
• RN licensure is required in Texas and BLS certification is required.
• BMTCN certification preferred.
• At least 3 years of RN experience required; 1 year in acute care inpatient RN experience required; 2 years oncology experience highly preferred.
• One year in a charge nurse role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervises and evaluates the provision of patient care by other personnel assigned to the unit.
• Performs daily patient rounds and completes random chart audits.
• Assists leadership in accreditation readiness audits to assess compliance with standards.
• Manages staff to meet established productivity targets as appropriate.
• Creates staffing/nursing assignments to meet patient-specific needs on a shift-by-shift basis.
• Coordinates staffing with central staffing office/house supervisor and adjusts for census and acuity.
• Coordinates self-scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage for unit needs and maintains attendance records.
• Cultivates staff growth by providing opportunities for participation in unit-based activities and education.
• Provides coaching and counseling of nursing personnel with reports to unit manager.
• Ensures safe discharge planning with care coordination and streamlines discharge efficiency.
• Manages inventory control of equipment and supplies; solicits input for needs.
• Participates in hospital work groups and performs other duties as assigned.
